The Gist: Show this Saturday

Straight From The Band:

April 4th – THIS SATURDAY at Finish line Sports Bar @ 9:00
Free show. All ages.
Full bar with inexpensive food and drink.
SMOKE FREE!
It's really a go-kart track, but it's a nice, clean with a decent stage.
5 for $10 buckets of frosty goodness! Also performing: 1000 Pounds of Thrust, Hyimn.
5300 Powerline Rd., Ft. Lauderdale, 33309.

Okay, it's Lanna Again.
I've never personally been to a show at the venue but if any of the members of The Gist say its decent, then you have a good enough stage.
And you get to go-kart too! I mean, c'mon. This is just asking and begging for the 8 - 12 year old in you to come out.

Go go! Have fun! And check out the other bands too. Like I've been saying, there is some serious talent here in South Florida.

Leading the Heroes Contest

Okay. So the boys of Leading the Heroes are doing a little contest for free tickets to their show on April 11th... Also playing is There for Tomorrow.

Buzz 103.1 Mojo Room Benefit.

I could repeat everything that is on the flyer but I think that would be a waste of time.
DJ Mel is the reason that they are putting on the benefit. You can read all about why...
The prizes seem pretty fantastic (I will name these)
-Autographed guitar from Papa Roach
- Surfboard from Straight Up Surfboards signed by Pepper
-A chance to Co-host an on-air shift
They will also be raffling off dates with some of the single jocks. How about that?
There will of course be live performances. Buzz has not put out a list except to say that Metalucious will be playing.
On top of that, I know that Stonehigh will be playing as well.
Go out - Have fun - Support someone!

Atlantic Billiards Show: Friday April 10th

Atlantic Billiards, which always seems to get in some pretty awesome bands, is doing it again Friday April 10th.
Make sure you guys head out and check out this All ages show with Murder in Motion, Stonehigh as well as other bands who are sure to rock the house.
Atlantic Billiards has a stage in the bar area. I always make sure to point this out because I'm always confounded when I see a band playing in a corner and the sound is horrid by no fault of the bands.
So make sure you check it out. $8 cover is pretty decent for the bands that will be playing.
Go go go!

Respectables Street: Friday Night Show

Okay, So respectables must have recieved a new license or something cause this is the second flyer I've seen with 18 and over.
If you go through the very gothic painted main room of Respectables and follow it around to the back, you will find the back area is a courtyard area where the bands play with an outside bar as well.
The shows here are pretty awesome. It's still in a small area, but enough room for people to move around.
Leading the Heroes, The Mission Veo, The Siren and New Architects will be playing. (Links to myspace pages)
Teresa Korber will also be there with live art.
Be there and enjoy.
Leading the Heroes has a very sexy version of 'Don't Stop Believing' that everyone should hear.

Punk Fest 2009: April 5th 2009

Okay. So look at the flyer and see the line up.
WOW!
Lights Out! and Bell Tower Falls are friends of mine... just the two of them playing is going to be a riot!
Make sure you check out this show. It's relatively cheap considering the list of bands that are going to be playing.
Churchills Pub is the Location! The address is on the flyer.
If you like punk music, then you should definitely go see the show. And it is always better live! Mosh pits are killer... join one!

The Marchen: Respectables Street Show

This Friday night, The Marchen will be playing on Respectables Street in West Palm Beach on Clematis.
The show says that its Free for 21 and over and $5 for 18 - 20 but I've never known Respectables Street allow under 21 ... and I'm pretty sure Clematis is 21 and over. So! That could be a typo but I could be wrong. But you have been warned!
Anyway, The Marchen are actually a band that is recorded through Florida Atlantic University's Hoot/Wisdom Recordings. They came in and did a Live music show with me (my first ever). It was a very special experience for me.
The lead singer, Kat's voice is haunting. Check out their music.
Also on the bill is Quiet River High who has my friend Nathan as apart of the band... and Stonefox.
Go out!
Enjoy!

Korn's Fieldy: Got the life

A new book just released, by Fieldy, the bassist for Korn has written a book. Much in the same style as Brian Welch who was the former lead guitarrist for the band who wrote "Save me From Myself," Fieldy was another rock star on the brink of destruction and suffering from addiction. From his studies reading the Bible, he has found himself and God and has recovered from his addictions.

If you enjoyed Welch's book, you should pick this one up as well.

Stonehigh: Reunion Show!

Tomorrow night (March 14th) at the Mojo Room, Stonehigh will be playing with One, Stomp therapy and Devistation. Stonehigh goes on at 8:45pm so be there!
Best part of all this? Its free (well sort of). All you have to do is wear green and waltze through that door without having to pay a single red cent.
Stonehigh has not been together in quite awhile (over 9 months) and they are going to have a great night of playing (they should be well rested).
I hope you all have a great time!
Unfortunately I will not be able to make it, but if you see any of the members of Stonehigh, tell them Lanna sent you!

Leading The Heroes: CD Release Party Pictures

Unfortunately I arrived too late to see some of the earlier bands but I got there just in time to see Hydrosonic, which was the first band to play. Next was The Mission Veo and after that was Leading The Heroes. As Promised, here are the pictures!

Leading the Heroes: CD Release for The Hollow Hearts and Broken Seams EP

Where oh where should you be this saturday at 6pm? hmmmmm?
Well let me tell you! You should be at Kevro's Art Bar for one of the hottest release parties that will happen in South Florida for a very very long time.

There is a $10 cover for anyone under 21 oooor if you are over 21 you can pay the $10 dollar cover (normally its $5) and get free copy of the new album! The Hollow Hearts and Broken Seams EP!
And ladies and gents, this isn't a 3 track cd with some okey playing music. This is a full listing album with some rock your socks off music that will make you jam in your car for the next year!

Hydrosonic will be playing as well as The Mission Veo. According to Dan from LTH, Before We Sleep had to drop off the bill. They were in discussion of finding someone else to play, so there could also be a suprise band as well.

I have never been less than impressed with a Leading the Heroes performance. I will be there as well... a rarity as far away as I live, but I will be back with pictures and all sorts of fun stuff.

So be there!!
Or lanna will find you and tickle you!

-Peace!

The Mission Veo will not be playing at PS 14 in Miami with Astari Nite.

Murder in Motion: Swampgrass Willies

Murder in motion will be playing at Swamp Grass Willies this Friday at 10 pm.

This is a really good show to attend as it is a decent sized venue with pool tables and usualy pretty excellent drink specials. The only catch is that you have to be over 21.

On top of Murder in Motion, Paris is Burning is also going to be playing.

Eat, drink, shoot pool and be merry!

Battle of the bands... Warning

I was told through a band that the program board for FAU would be putting together a battle of the bands soon. They are doing this without the help of Owlradio which they did the year before, because as of right now the program board has not paid the bands who won the bands battle of the bands from the previous year. I'm not sure how they are going to pay the bands this year or what their prize will be, due to the fact that they haven't fulfilled the other part of the contract that stated that they are to play with the next headliner that the program board books. This is sketchy to me and I am warning bands to be leary of this.

This is a warning only. It is up to you, the band, to enter the battle or not.

Leone: Playing with LOVE DRUG

Leone, a local South Florida band will be playing with Love Drug on March 3rd at the Orpheum.
I have close ties with Leone and they won the Hootstock event that the program board threw for FAU last spring.
This is a band that is well worth seeing. The last time I saw them, they were playing a local show up near me in Vero Beach and they always play a hard rock show combined with amazing lyrical content. With the addition of their new drummer, they are harder hitting and sound better than before.
This is going to be a great show and even though it is all the way in Tampa, this is about local bands and the South Florida scene. So check them out at their myspace if you cannot get out to the show. Listen and Love.

Jimi Hendrix: The intimate story....

Jimi Hendrix: the intimate story of a betrayed musical legend.

By Sharon Lawrence

"i can envision the day when all material things are pulled from me, and then the stronger my soul will be"

-Jimi Hendrix, summer of 1969

Jimi Hendrix lived his life in the spotlight and yet much of it was behind closed doors. It was a time that the stars lives werent plastered all over every magazine like a weekly chronology of what someones life is in the eyes of those who observe. Jimi Hendrix was never really understood and though we may catch a glimpse of him through his music, we can never truely know just from the music. This book does an amazing job from beginning to end to bring us closer to such a musical legend... and a better understanding into his short life and death.

Definately check it out... Publishers price is $14.95 paperback.

Leading The Heroes: Show TONIGHT in Delray Beach

This even is interesting because it incorporates live music, an art show and live painting.

Teresa Korber will have her art on display as well as live art.

Leading the Heroes be playing as well. I'm friends with these guys and when they are on stage they are not just playing for the heck of it. They are playing so that you feel like you are part of the show too.

This event will be particularly interesting because of the duality of the event.

So breakdown breakdown:

Who: Teresa Korber and Leading the Heroes

What: Rock show! Art show!

Where: 52 North Swinton Ave, Delray Beach 33444

When: February 12th. TONIGHT!!!

Go out! Have fun! Bring your valentine!

Elido: Mojo Room!

The Mojo Room (which may be a little north for most of you readers) is in Port St. Lucie. If you have never been there though, it's quite the venue. The stage is pretty gosh darn amazing and there are not 1 but 2 bars to choose from.

Moving onto the musical talent: Elido.

This band is a hard rock band. According to their myspace page their musical influences are: A7X, Incubus, PapaRoach, Sevendust, Taproot, Nonpoint, Rage Against the Machine, Soundgarden, 311, the Apex Theory, LostProphets, etc....

I will fully agree with Nonpoint and 311. These guys are very talented and this show will be amazing. On top of all that you'll be supporting local music. $5 to support the cause!

Get off your butt and instead of seeing a movie (which will actually cost you MORE) go to the Mojo Room.

Stonehigh: First show in 7 months

Local band Stonehigh is having its first show in 9 months. Jon Ross and Steve Beaulieu will be together for an acoustic show.

So a breakdown on info:
Who: Stonehigh
Where: Atlantic Billiards
When: Feb. 20th

According to their myspace website... the band may have their new line up ready and fans should be listening to new music by February (which is now... so we'll just be waiting impatiently).

Story:

Yes I am going to tell a story. This is a story about how good these guys are not just as a band, but as good people in general. I was putting together a battle of the bands last year. I was trying to get a lot of bands and even though these guys were playing 2 shows already that day, then came on to play my show making that 3 shows in one day. For a local band that is all but unheard of. Not only were they playing 3 different shows... the show's locations were ranged from Port St. Lucie to Boca Raton.

So go check out some great bands, great music and have a good time!

Fire Zuave: Leaving South Florida

So last thursday (last minute show... even the management at Respectable didn't know about the show that was happening in their club) I was able to see The Fire Zuave live...

The show was amazing and for any of you who happened to make it out there, Kudos.

You can find The Fire Zuave at their myspace. They are relocating to Athens, GA. They will be back for a few shows at the end of Feb... so check out their myspace for that information.

Chris, the bassist, will be staying in the South Florida area and possibly starting up a new band after a "much needed break."

Chuck (the singer and guitarist) and Jason (drummer), will be leaving for Athens, Georgia. Make sure you check these guys out!!

Leading the Heroes

Oh goodness gracious! another weekend! I'm giving you all ideas for things to go out and do! so do them!!!

At the lounge this weekend (info on the flyer) Leading the Heroes will be there jamming out and playing some of their new stuff along with some of their stuff off of their album "tear apart the process." Firstly (to show love to the guys), I think they are one of the best bands coming out of south florida today... so they are a must see. Secondly, if you've never been to the lounge, its quite the place to go to. There is a club and sushi! c'mon! how cool is that!?

The show is bound to be awesome. The band is amazing and after the show Dan (whom is a great great guy) is going to be spinning for everyone!

Thats what you get! No cover! Great drinks (the bartenders there have made me a few sheets to the wind on a few occassions) and amazing music!

Check out their myspace to listen to samples of their music. Click here! MS04 is one of my favorite tracks and i have their CD in my car (and in the player) as I type. It's bound to be good.

toodles and information on what to do saturday in the next post!

Slash

Slash - An autobiography co-written by Slash from Guns N' Roses and Anthony Bozza.

This book is very similar to Nikki Sixx's Heroine Diaries. It's full of sex, drugs, and rock n' roll. You find yourself thinking, 'There is no way that this really happened!" But as the cover of the book states, "It seems excessive, but that doesn't mean it didn't happen."

The book takes you through the early days of Guns n' Roses and the continuous fights with Axl to the later days when he finally found stability in his life. It's amazing that any of these guys lived with all the drugs and women they were doing. Good read for those who are fans of Guns N' Roses and good read if you are a fan of people who lived a very trashy lifestyle amongst the tarnished glamor of rock.

Enjoy :)

Bell Tower Falls

Places to go? People to see? No?
Well for an idea of where to go this weekend... Check out Atlantic Billiards this Friday Night at 10pm.

You will be able to check out Murder in Motion, Traces of Envy & Bell Tower Falls. This is a rare "all ages" show (which are hard to find in South Florida). $5 cover and "Crazy Deals on Drinks."

I had a chance to have an interview with John from Bell Tower Falls.

Lanna: Have you guys played at Atlantic Billiards before?
John BTF: I can't say we have before. We've heard a lot of positives about the place though. It's gonna be a great show though...$5 to see three bands and play pool? What's better than that?
Lanna: Have you played with Murder in Motion or Traces of envy before?
John BTF: Nope. They're new bands to playing with.
John BTF: Have you ever heard of them?
Lanna: hey! who's doing the interview?
John BTF: lol
Lanna: No i haven't, but I'm sure I'll listen to them soon. But what's it like being on the docket with a band you haven't played with?
John BTF: It's always pretty interesting to see how a band we haven't played with before will flow with our sound. We always listen to the bands we're to play with if they have an outlet to preview their music.
John BTF: But if there are bands playing
John BTF: Then it's all good. I mean,
John BTF: regardless of who we play with, we're all playing for the same purpose, so it's always a relief to find people who share the same passion as you
Lanna: What has BTF been up to? Recording?
John BTF: Well, we've been writing some new material and practicing pretty rigorously. We're planning to send our demos (selling for $5) to record labels so we can get into a studio and record an actual EP in an actual studio sometime soon. But that costs good amounts of money lol
Lanna: Yes... it does.. So any closing words?
John BTF: Come check us out on myspace! Come out to our shows! You'll have a great time, hear some wicked music, and thanks to everyone who's helped us so far. Let's keep it up!
John BTF: Also, we're selling demos for $5 and we'll be selling shirts by the end of Jan/end of Feb
Lanna: Awesome stuff.

Lanna: Thanks so much John
John BTF: <3 Any time ^^

Anyway! Check it out everyone!!!
Toodles-

The Heroin Diaries

Every Tuesday I'm going to try and give an update on music that isn't necessarily audio music. a Band's biography that they recently released or a singular musician's biography.

Now! For today's non audio music fun.

The Heroin Diaries (for official website, click link)..
This bit of interesting was written by the bassist for Motley Crue. This was written in 1986 when Nikki Sixx was coked out of his mind and on any other drug he could get his hands on. He would write in these journals and diaries when he was the most messed up... little pieces of paper... what ever.

The book reads like a comic book of delusions and back and forth commentary between people who were there to witness the events that took place in the diaries... people such as his band mates, his mother and sister, his grandfather and this one annoying woman named Vanity who turned into an evangelist later in life.

The book is an interesting read for the slightly demented...
The soundtrack is wonderful as well for those who loved the lyrical content that Sixx helped with Crue... I also find it amusing that a book has a soundtrack.

For a sample... this is the song "Life is Beautiful" from the soundtrack

Much of the art in the video is featured in the book. Warning: This book is not for all ages. Reader discretion is advised.

Until next time

Welcome: Bright Shiny and New

So everyone knows exactly what it feels like... Well... anyone who has been to a concert or a show.

Its that feeling that makes your breath catch in your throat as you wait anxiously for your singer or your band to hit the stage. How will they do it? Start your favorite song right off the bat as they run on stage? Have a curtain drawn and open it as they start out with a relatively unknown song. Or will they rise through the stage... their top hit filling every crevice of your mind as you start to sing along in your head or as loud as your lungs can carry. Its like touching a battery and allowing the jolts scream through your veins as you jump up and down to the beat. Your heart takes the beat of a different rythmn.

Concerts are the essence of life in mass.

There is something about a favorite band and seeing them walk on stage that makes your smile one a bright day a mockery of what you feel at that moment.

As a hot topic slogan says "Music = Life."

Locally there is an abundance of shows that give you a more intimate experience.
You can be in a venue where the lead singers sweat just sprayed across your face as he rocks his/her body hard to beat of the song. Yum (joke..).

The Eagles will be playing on January 26th @ 8pm. at The Bank Atlantic Center in Sunrise.
Ticketing Information is available here.

If you've never heard of The Eagles (shame on you... you must click on the video its not an option) or you just love the song, here is "Hotel California."

Ta Ta for now lovelies.
